Puma Clever Little Bag - Eco Friendly Packaging

Puma Clever Little Bag - Eco Friendly Packaging

Puma, the third largest sportswear maker behind Nike and Adidas has recently released a whole new eco concept of 'bye bye shoebox, hello clever little bag'. This collaboration between Yves Behar / Fuse Project and Puma is the next answer to cutting down carbon prints and production waste.

No More Useless Tissue Needed to Produce a ShoeBox

Why is the so-called shoebox clever ? By providing structure to a cardboard sheet, the bag uses 65% less cardboard than the standard shoe box, has no laminated printing, no tissue paper, takes up less space and weighs less in shipping, and replaces the plastic retail bag.

Puma also claims this new concept will save about 8,500 tons of paper, 20 million Mega joules of electricity, 1 million litres of fuel oil, 1 million litres of water and 500,000 litres of diesel.

The bag is non-woven which means less work and waste. It protects the shoes from dust and dirt in the warehouse and during shipping.

Puma Clever Little Bag ? Such a genius design !

The “clever little bag” is an iconic brand element upon leaving the store as it replaces the plastic shopping bag, and it is also used for shoe storage in travel suitcases. The bag is made of non-woven polyester consisting of recycled PET, and eventually is also recyclable.

PUMA’s apparel collections will be bagged using sustainable material, replacing traditional polyethylene bags. This means that 720 tons of polyethylene bags can be avoided per year, which equals a saving of 29 million plastic bags which is enough to cover an area the size of 1000 football pitches.

A Step In The Right Direction by Puma ?

Furthermore, PUMA T-shirts will be folded one more time to reduce the packaging size and thus saving CO2 emissions and costs during transport.

By switching out current plastic and paper shopping bags in PUMA stores and replacing them with sustainable biodegradable bags the sportlifestyle company is looking to save another 192 tons of plastic and 293 tons of paper annually.

Awesome video of Puma's Clever Little Bag concept

Cant wait to have one of those ? I'm afraid you would have to drool longer as the retail launch of the new packaging and distribution system is planned as of the second half of 2011.

The company, which was founded in 1948, distributes its products in more than 120 countries, employs more than 9,000 people worldwide and has headquarters in Herzogenaurach/Germany, Boston, London and Hong Kong. For more information, please visit www.puma.com
