After his controversial sodomy case and defection of several MPs, allowing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to stay on as Opposition Leader is an unusual move for Pakatan Rakyat.
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said this was because Parti Keadilan Rakyat no longer held the majority among the Opposition following the defection of several MPs.
He said political convention dictated that the opposition party with the most number of seats in Dewan Rakyat should have the honour of having one of their MPs become the Opposition Leader.
“In this case, it should be a DAP MP who holds the post since it now commands the majority.
“But Anwar has again been given the privilege to become the Opposition Leader.
“Maybe, the opposition parties –in particular PAS – do not have the confidence to make Lim Kit Siang their leader,” he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from PPP Youth members at the Barisan Nasional headquarters here yesterday.
